Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru Kan episode 1 One Piece reference/parody

Share

Explanation of One Piece parody/reference in Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru. Kan / My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong Climax / My Teen Romantic Comedy: SNAFU Climax! episode 1

Timestamp is approximate

At 17:26 in episode 1, Hikigaya Komachi said that Hikigaya Hachiman was a “kimo kimo no mi no nouryokusha” which roughly means “ability user of the gross gross fruit”. This “kimo kimo no mi / gross gross fruit” is a parody of the naming style of the “akuma no mi / devil fruits” in the One Piece manga’s universe.

For example, the main character’s akuma no mi / devil fruit’s name was “gomu gomu no mi” (literally “rubber rubber fruit”). In One Piece, characters gain an ability after eating an akuma no mi / devil fruit and then become referred to as “nouryokusha (roughly “ability user”, more literally, “ability person”).

So Komachi made a joke about Hachiman’s grossness being so gross it were an ability which he gained from eating a devil fruit.
