Translation notes for Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan o Erande Iraremasen / Ascendance of a Bookworm: I`ll Do Anything to Become a Librarian! episode 1.
The title
The title of the anime literally translates to “Book-lover’s Being an Inferior Overthrowing Their Superior(s): In Order to Become a Librarian, (I) Cannot Be Choosing (My) Methods”. “Gekokujou” specifically refers to those of lower status overthrowing those of higher status. “Ascendance” by itself could be accomplished without overthrow.
One translation note
In the official translation, Mine’s “samu! sema! kusa!” line was translated as “Cold! Scary! Stinky!”. However, it is more accurately, “Cold! Cramped! Stinky!”. There was no mention of “scariness”.
